ARTIST STATEMENT

My focus is a sense of place, my relationship to nature, landscape, animals and people. Patterns in nature provide formal structure, composition and color as well as endless subject matter. Each day brings a new vision and sensibility. My work is a visual journal of my experiences. As an artist, I am interested in a variety of media. Photography, digital printmaking, drawing, painting, collage, and graphic design consume most of my attention.

As a photographer with a printmaking background I am very interested in the metamorphosis of an image. Each change of state adds a new dimension and direction. My pictures start in the camera; then I work through an evolutionary process using digital imaging software. A photo-work may be a combination of multiple images, a series of photographs, or a single print.

The biggest challenge I face as a "realist" and photographer is how to make the ordinary, extraordinary.
